About Alex

Alex was born and raised in Boise, ID where as a child he immersed himself in as many music opportunities as possible. Through countless hours of practice he became one of the best classical double bass players in the State of Idaho, winning the State Solo competition as a freshman. Alex knew that music would always be at the center of his identity and humanity, and believed his passion ran much deeper than any accolade or award.

While pursuing his undergraduate degree at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, Alex played in multiple bands and ensembles and began to expand his knowledge of genres and instruments. It was at this time that he truly became a multi-instrumentalist. Driven by an undeniable curiosity for different sounds and experiences, he began playing guitar, piano, cello, and writing his own music.

Alex then spent several years living in Colorado where he taught in both private and public schools and connected himself with the indie folk world of Denver. During this time he recorded multiple projects, played frequent gigs, and always taught private lessons. Through finding community, inspiring musicians of all ages, and valuing the life skills and work ethic that playing an instrument gives, he knew that it was only a matter of time before he would leave the classroom behind and start Marigold Music.
